Would it be evil...

To spin the other half of the Twisted Knitters yarn from the end instead of the fold? I'm working on the rest of the Hang on Sloopy and getting (I think) better color definition. I might like them all better this way. I promise not to care that the socks are fraternal.

What do you think?

If you don't mind that the socks are fraternal...then go for it. Or you could knit stripes or a design from each skein for the socks and have them closer in color.

end? fold? I don't know what it means. I say go with your gut... you always make it beautiful.

Now, could you invent a way for me to hang on to my socks? (see my blog http://joyfossil.blogspot.com for the bad news AGAIN.)

Seriously tho, as long as they are somewhat the same color... that's ok, right? I mean you are not as anal as me - *I* have to have the socks identical or they bother me forever but you are a whole lot less ocd than me!

go for it!

I think you are asking about the difference in woollen (end)and worsted (folded) spinning? You will see a difference in how the colours spin, but that does depend on your top/roving. If you paint stripes on the roving, and want long defined stripes on the spun yarn, woollen spinning works well. If you want a more blended colour sequence then try worsted. This does depend on how wide you paint the stripes. For best colour distibution stripes should be the same length as the fibre staple (length), dots on tops give you a tweedy effect either way.
Hope that helps

I don't mind fraternal at all, if the color sequence is the same. I mean, even if I spun them the same way, I would get the variations because of a different section of the rovings.

Judy, these rovings aren't really painted in stripes so they will be much more similar in both styles of spinning than a striped roving would be. What I'm seeing in my practicing today is that the color seem clearer spinning from the end. But it may just be a brighter section of roving.

I'm going to do the other bobbin from the end now that I've got it under control.

Thanks for the advice, all!

Looking at all of your lovely dyed roving makes me want to get my book out and do some dyeing! I say go for it with spinning from the end instead of from the fold. I look forward to seeing your results.
